Established on a wing and a prayer in 1969 by a handful of uncompromising parents, Opengate, Inc. has emerged in its field as a distinct success story. Today we offer Residential placement, and Day & Residential Habilitation to developmentally disabled adults, including those behaviorally challenged. Opengate operates Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF), Community Residences (CR), and Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA), a Day Habilitation Program and serves as a vendor for Medicaid Service Coordination. Opengate champions every consumer it serves as a valued member of our society. Furthermore, Opengate proudly advocates the rights of its developmentally disabled to become part of the mainstream to their maximum capability. Therapeutic programs and services for those in need of habilitation are provided as well as options for community living for those who can benefit from a more independent lifestyle. Opengate is a private, not-for-profit and non-sectarian agency. All programs are under the auspices of Opengate, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) corporation. Its facilities are licensed by and subject to periodic audit from the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD). Opengate interacts in close cooperation with the Hudson Valley Developmental Disabilities Services Office (HVDDSO) designing and implementing program and physical plant development as well as placement of persons served.
