Opengate Story

Opengate’s ICF Day Program is situated on our main campus in Somers, Westchester County, New York in the Lucariello Program Building which opened in 1996. This program serves Opengate’s ICF residents who currently live in three of the group homes on campus. The Day Habilitation Program, formerly located on the Somers campus moved in 2007 to a spacious site in Hawthorne, NY. This new, centralized location facilitates access from every part of the county. The larger space and modernized facility provide an inviting home base for our Day Hab that assures in-house activities and extensive community opportunities for consumers. For example, local entertainment venues, volunteerism, computer training, personal fitness and recreational events are close at hand. Opengate continues to serve Developmentally Disabled adults who come with a variety of individualized strengths and needs including, but not limited to, those on the Autism Spectrum and those needing behavioral support to reach their potential and have a positive and productive program day.

Opengate operates three IRA's (Individualized Residential Alternatives) and a Community Residence located in neighboring communities throughout Westchester County enabling consumers to achieve greater independence. The activity level at these neighborhood houses is impressive particularly since many of the consumers first required 24-hour support provided by the ICF. Visitors to these successful landmarks will conclude that these are indeed contented homes fulfilling the once elusive dreams of their Opengate families.
